DUMBARTON’S Amanda Wane has been named as the Scottish winner of Britain’s Best Bridesmaid of the Year.

She beat off competition from nearly 60 others from all over Scotland and is now in the final seven and in with a chance to win the overall UK title and with it a dream holiday with Red7.

Amanda, 33, an events manager, was bridesmaid to her best friend Leanne McNiven, previously from Helensburgh, but now married to Callum and living in Inverness. It was Leanne who nominated Amanda for the competition.

Leanne, 32, an auxilliary nurse, told the Reporter this week: “My ultimate bestie Amanda surely deserves to win. All I knew about my hen do was the date. I had an envelope to open on the morning of the date and enclosed was a card saying that I was off for a spa weekend and train tickets to Edinburgh.

“Off I went with my bag, which she was extremely particular about what I packed, on my train from Inverness to Edinburgh where she met me off the train.

“After bundling me into a taxi she proceeded to blindfold me, popped earphones into my ears and was placing things over my head, in my hair, on my legs.

“After a lengthy taxi ride I was guided out and my blindfold was removed. I was in complete shock when I saw seven of my good friends and family dressed in red berets, neck scarves at Edinburgh airport and told we were actually all off to Paris for the weekend.

"This amazing girl had managed to organise this and even get my passport without me realising or have a single clue what was going to happen and it didn’t stop there. She went above and beyond in my eyes A fantastic friend for life.”

The winner will be announced on March 23 when group travel experts Red7 will crown Britain’s Best Bridesmaid.

Not only will the ultimate winning bridesmaid receive the prestigious title of Britain’s Best Bridesmaid, she will also be whisked away on her very own ‘Bridesmaid Moon’, a fantastic cruise to Bruges and Amsterdam.
