The proposal for a new stadium for Dumbarton FC has been thrown out after West Dunbartonshire’s full council narrowly rejected the controversial application.
Councillors voted by 10-9 to reject the club’s plans for a new 4,000 capacity stadium at Young’s Farm after a 75-minute debate.
Cllr Lawrence O’Neill’s motion that the application should be accepted was supported by Cllr John Mooney, while the council’s planning convenor Cllr Jim Finn moved to throw out the application and was backed by Baillie Denis Agnew.
Those who then voted to reject the application were Provost William Hendrie, Baillie Agnew, and councillors Jim Brown, Gail Casey, Diane Docherty, Jim Finn, Iain McLaren, Marie McNair, Sally Page and Brian Walker.
Council leader Jonathan McColl and Cllr Jim Bollan both declared an interest and left the room and did not take part in the debate.
