A DUMBARTON mum is appealing to kind-hearted strangers to help her buy an iPad and specialised stand for her “fighter” son who is bed-ridden with cerebral palsy.

Kieron Rowan has undergone numerous serious surgeries throughout his life since his diagnosis at just two years old, including the removal of both his hips and a spinal fusion.

The 26-year-old, who also suffers with scoliosis and epilepsy, has been immobile and unable to eat or drink since he was a teenager.

Long hospital visits are a frequent feature of Kieron’s life, and mum Amanda Rowan is desperate to do something to help put a smile on the film and music-lover’s face.

And she says an iPad that he can watch easily from his wheelchair or lying in his hospital bed would be just the thing to keep her brave son stimulated through tough times.

Ms Rowan, 46, who acts as full-time carer for Kieron, explained: “It’s severe. He’s had his hips removed and he’s peg-fed. He’s prone to chest infections and needs long hospital stays.

“When he’s in hospital it’ll usually be for one to two weeks. The longest he’s stayed in for has been eight months.

“Over the past couple of months he’s needed to go to hospital nearly every week. It’s really hard on the family.

“He’s not got a lot of things to do there. He needs to be stimulated.

“The iPad would be something good for him with a specialised stand so we could attach it to his wheelchair and he can watch when he’s lying down, or when he’s outside it can go anywhere with him.”

Kieron, who lives with his mum and has two sisters – Demi, 20, and Michaela, 12 – has also recently begun suffering with eye seizures, with the longest to date lasting for three days.

His mum believes he deserves a treat that can make a difference to him too as he bravely battles on each day.

“Kieron’s all there and 100 per cent more,” Ms Rowan continued.

“He would do anything for anyone if he could.

“He’s a fan of Jessie J, he’s into films and music. He talks with his eyes and his smile.

“He’s such a fighter. It would be something to make him smile a bit more.

“It’s about raising awareness about Kieron’s condition too. When you are trapped in your own body but know what’s going on – if it was me I would have given up years ago.”

Amanda says she would appreciate any help through a JustGiving page towards the iPad’s cost as they attempt to hit their £1,000 target.

Ms Rowan said: “It would mean the world. He’s just such a gem.

“If I had the money I would get it myself. I would be really grateful if people could help to put a smile on his face.”
