Pupils from Dumbarton and the Vale took part in two football festivals organised as part of the Active Schools programme.

Teams from Balloch, Bonhill, Christie Park, Gartocharn, Lennox, Levenvale, Renton, St Martin’s and St Mary’s Primaries played in the P5-7 football festival at Vale of Leven Academy – an event that involved more than 100 children.

The next day, pupils from Braehead, Aitkenbar, Knoxland, St Patrick’s, St Michael’s and St Peter’s Primaries took part in the P5-7 Dumbarton football festival at Dumbarton Academy, which 22 sports leaders helped out at.

The festivals were non-competitive and provided schools with the opportunity to play each other.

Every school that attended one of the festivals was awarded 10 West Dunbartonshire School Games points which will be added to the points they have already received by participating in other festivals and competitions organised by Active Schools and Sports Development during 2017 and 2018.

Yvonne Macdonald, Active Schools coordinator for the Vale of Leven area said: “It’s fantastic that every primary school in the Vale of Leven area has been able to attend our football festival this term.

“The majority of schools run lunchtime or after-school football clubs and the festivals give the pupils something to aim towards and the opportunity to play against other schools.

"Our next football festival is taking place in May and we hope to see all nine schools involved again.”

Speaking about the festival at Dumbarton Academy, Emma McCluskey, Active Schools coordinator for Dumbarton said: “This was the second of our three football festivals for 2017/2018.

“It was great to see so many teams attend and some great football skills on display – clearly the pupils have been practising.

"We are looking forward to our final and third football festival in May.”
