A whopping total of over £4,700 has been raised for charity by Dumbarton Academy’s all-night Sportathon, the school revealed last week.

Children from all year groups battled tiredness to power on through NINE HOURS of sports, games and fitness activities in aid of Sport Relief.

A total of 170 pupils and staff in all were involved throughout the night on Friday, March 23 into Saturday, rotating around different stations to take part in a huge variety of sports.

And they even came together en masse for a high-energy clubbercise workout in the early hours of the morning.

Stephanie Murtagh, PE teacher at Dumbarton Academy and organiser of the event, which was the first of its kind in West Dunbartonshire, said the night was a “huge success”.

“I was so happy to see all the pupils together and taking part, I’m extremely proud of all of them,” she commented.

“They are a credit to the school! They expressed how much they enjoyed the event and are already asking if it will happen again.

“I think pupils found it more challenging than they originally thought it would be, but it made them even more determined to survive the nine hours.

“The highlight was definitely the full group doing the slosh/Macarena at 2.30am, they didn’t even want to stop during their break time!

“The clubbercise at 5am definitely spurred them on for the last stretch.”

The school have completely smashed their target of raising £1,000, raising £4,784.78 to be exact, with all the funds raised going towards good causes through Sport Relief.

The PE teacher added: “It is definitely something we hope to make an annual thing.

“Staff in Dumbarton Academy are dedicated to giving pupils memorable experiences that will stay with them forever.”
