A SILVERTON resident has blasted “selfish” dog owners who she claims are failing to pick up their dogs’ mess around the area, allegedly leaving the people who live in the area to clear up after them.

According to the furious resident, who did not wish to be named, she and other neighbours are fed up of needing to clear dog poo out of their gardens and are having to resort to clearing it away themselves.

The woman highlighted Millburn Road, Millburn Crescent and Alclutha Avenue in Dumbarton as areas being badly affected by dog fouling.

And she is pleading for owners to think about their actions and pick up after their pets when they are out on walks.

She told the Reporter: “It’s really, really getting to me. It’s totally selfish owners [to blame].

“I’m so angry and so frustrated. It’s totally beyond a joke.

“I’m having to go out and remove it myself.

“Silverton is a lovely area, they’re just bringing it down.

“I don’t blame the dogs at all. The owners aren’t thinking about it.

“I don’t have a dog of my own, I had them when I was younger. The dog was never off the leash.

“It’s a mixture of people leaving it and dropping it in the bags.

“In this area it’s getting quite bad now. I should be able to walk along the pavement without the mess.”

A spokesperson for West Dunbartonshire Council said: “We agree that this is disgusting and as a council we do everything we can to encourage the minority of irresponsible dog owners to pick up after their pets.

“We have provided over five million biodegradable poop scoop bags free to pet owners and there are over 1000 bins across West Dunbartonshire where they can deposit this waste.

“We have not received any complaints about dog fouling in this area but now this has been brought to our attention, we will have the street cleaned and will also arrange additional patrols.”
