The council have offered a life line to Dumbarton support group Work Connect following a devastating fire which destroyed Havoc Park Pavilion.

Work Connect, a HSCP group who help people with learning disabilities, lost £20,000 worth of equipment after the centre was consumed by flames in the early hours of May 18.

The deliberate blaze destroyed items including arts and crafts materials, cameras, cutlery and crockery, gardening materials and tools.

The incident shocked the community, and the group had appealed to the public for help to minimise disruption to its members.

But following a full council meeting on Thursday, it was agreed that up to £20,000 from the Prudential Reserve will be transferred to help the group get back on track and resume their activities as quickly as possible.

Dumbarton councillor Iain McLaren commented: "I'm delighted the money was agreed for the group, and my thanks go to all the people who have kindly donated items after the fire."

The council will consider how to replenish the Prudential Reserve at the 2019-20 budget meeting.
