If you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed, a group in Dumbarton is offering help to combat the pressures of modern day life in the form of meditation lessons.

Dumbarton Meditation Group run weekly sessions, giving people the opportunity to switch off from the outside world and give their mind a rest.

There are two leaders keeping the sessions varied, and anyone is welcome to come along and discover the benefits of meditation, said Sharon Murphy, one of the group organisers.

Sharon explained that modern life does not necessarily allow time to breathe and switch off.

She said: “We normally sit for half an hour. It brings you into the moment.

“So for example if you’ve been working hard, or you’re stressed, we show how to relax.

“We’ve got about 10 to 15 regulars. You don’t have to come every week.”

There is also a focus on mindfulness in the sessions, which is said to have both mental and physical benefits.

Classes run every Wednesday from 7.15pm to 8pm at St Augustine’s Church in High Street, Dumbarton. The group organisers just ask for a small donation of £1 or £2 to help cover room hire.
