A82 flooding upgrade
THE A82 at Dumbarton is to benefit from a £220,000 upgrade to fight flooding.
Transport Scotland will start work later this month on overhauling the existing drainage system .
A drainage study by Amey ranked Dunglass Roundabout on the A82 as number one target in Dumbarton and the Vale.
Flooding has been recorded between one and three times each year at this location for the last five years with journey times are often affected during persistent heavy rainfall.
Colin Mackenzie, Amey's account director explains:"Although the potential for flooding at any location can't be eradicated completely Amey has designed this scheme to address historic flooding problems on the A82 and drivers should benefit from a significant improvement once we complete the project.
"We're operating night time shifts to deliver the works while being mindful of keeping the impact of noise and the impact to traffic to a minimum."
Work will be carried out from Sunday 12 February for six weeks but has been planned and programmed to cause as little disruption as possible while bringing real improvements to flooding resilience for motorists using the route.
West of Dunglass Roundabout Amey will deliver an upgrade of the existing drainage and change the profile of the road surface to help water run-off into the new system. The vast majority of the work at this location will be carried out overnight maintaining one lane in each direction, returning to two narrowed lanes during the day. There may be a need to carry out carriageway resurfacing work during two weekends in March.
Traffic restrictions will be in place overnight west of Dunglass Roundabout. Amey will provide more information as the scheme progresses and in particular prior to the two weekends of work planned west of Dunglass in March which will conclude this drainage improvement scheme.
