POLICE in Dumbarton and the Vale have declared war on the shadowy Mr Bigs and crooks connected with serious and organised crime.

Officers are planning to deal a hammer blow to the high-level criminals who think they are "untouchable".

Many are responsible for flooding the area's streets with deadly drugs and blighting the area's hard-working communities.

A DEVOTED Dumbarton dad proved he is a real class act after scooping a prized education gong at a glitzy awards bash.

Iain Ellis, 48, a driving force behind the new £15.5million Dumbarton Academy, collected the inaugural 'Parents as Partners in Learning' gong at the Scottish Education Awards 2012.

He took centre stage at the ceremony held last week at Glasgow's Hilton Hotel (June 12) after he was nominated by West Dunbartonshire Council's Director of Education Terry Lanangan

TELEVISION bosses are hoping to find the next child star of River City in Dumbarton and the Vale.

Production staff on the show - filmed at BBC studios in Dumbarton - are hoping a resident in the area will have a young boy aged around two to take on an important role in the BBC Scotland drama.
