The works at Knowle Burn have seen contractors build a huge storage pond, capable of holding enough water to fill six Olympic swimming pools.
This is designed to collect overspill water from the burn and protect drivers and nearby residents from flooding.
The pupils met Mr Rowan from George Leslie Building, the firm in charge of the project, who showed them round the site and told them all about the scheme.
