The proposal will go before a special meeting of councillors on Wednesday (August 13).

The report states: " Children in West Dunbartonshire should be educated in good quality buildings.

"West Dunbartonshire Council currently has no schools with Condition ratings of D but has 16 primary schools with C ratings.

"Of these 16, two schools (St Peter’s and Aitkenbar) are scheduled to move into new A rated buildings in 2016."

This means that there are 16 schools that have been given the second-poorest grade, with the following 11 in Dumbarton and the Vale: Gartocharn; Jamestown; Ladyton; Levenvale; Renton; St Kessog’s; St Martin’s; St Ronan’s ;Highdykes; Braehead; Haldane The report goes on to say: " Priority should be given to removing category C schools from the council’s educational estate.

This should be delivered by: a. Creating category A schools for the maximum number of children within the available resources; or b. Where this is not a viable option by investing in existing buildings to create category B accommodation."

The report also offers the option of possible mergers and amalgamations.

The meeting will take place at 5pm on Wednesday in the Garshake Road offices, Dumbarton.
