The cash-strapped authority has published a report to let people know how they are performing on issues affecting tenants in 2013/14.

The Annual Performance Report for Tenants and Other Customers aims to provide clear, accurate information about how WDC is performing against targets set out in the Scottish Social Housing Charter (SSHC).

Introduced by the Scottish Government in 2012, the SSHC sets out 16 outcomes and standards that social landlords are expected to deliver to their tenants and other service users.

Landlords must self-assess their performance against each of these outcomes and report this to the Scottish Housing Regulator every May.

The council must then report its performance to tenants and other service users by October.

The report outlines many areas where WDC has performed well, such as: 98.9 per cent of tenants are satisfied with the repairs and maintenance service and 73 per cent of tenants think that the rent they pay represents good value for money.

More than 95 per cent of homeless people were also satisfied with the quality of temporary accommodation, and 92 per cent of tenants are satisfied with the standard of their home when moving in.

However the report also states that there are more than 4,400 people waiting for a house and only 1,162 people were allocated housing last year.

West Dunbartonshire ranks among the lowest in the country on some housing issues.

Councillor David McBride, pictured, convener of Housing, told the Reporter: “We hope this report will encourage tenants to ask questions, to hold the council to account and help drive further improvements. As well as highlighting areas where we have performed well, it also outlines the actions we are taking to improve performance in other areas.” Recently the Reporter published photos of the Dumbarton home of John Nicholson and William Croll who had been living in damp conditions since June.

Both men say they have been deemed unfit for work due to medical conditions exasperated by the poor conditions in their council flat.

A copy of the full report can be found on the council’s website. and tenants will receive a copy in the winter edition of Housing News.
