David Scott, 33, was cleared of all charges following a trial at Dumbarton Sheriff Court but said the “terrible” experience has left him unable to drive alone.

He told The Reporter: “It’s just been a terrible time.

“I’m scared to go in the car myself now. Any time I’m out and about I’ve got one of my kids with me or my wife with me.

“I don’t want to be getting stopped for something I didn’t do again.” Mr Scott was accused of indecently exposing himself to three young girls in Dumbarton last September.

Police were called in to search after being made aware of a man allegedly exposing himself a 12-year-old on a path near to the town centre on at around 8.45pm on September 3 last year.

After launching a public appeal, two other incidents of a similar nature were reported.

That saw allegations of a 13-year-old being flashed on Howatshaws Road around 6.45pm on the same night, with a 17-year-old also said to have been targeted on Bankend Road at Broadmeadow Industrial Estate at around 8.15pm.

Mr Scott was picked up by police, questioned, charged and held in custody over the weekend before being released on bail.

He appeared in the dock at the sheriff court during a two-day trial which finished last month and was found not guilty and acquitted of all charges.

The machine operator, who lives with his wife and six-year-old twins in Braehead, Bonhill, is angry about what he went through and concerned that the real culprit has not been caught.

He said: “I’d never been in trouble with any police, I’d never been to court in my life. I’ve been at the same job for 15 years, I’ve got kids myself.

“I told police when I was getting interviewed, ‘I’ve got a wee girl of my own, why would I want to do that to someone else’s wee girl?’ “They had the wrong person from day one.” He added: “I went to the bowling club after it happened and I was getting stared at. I’ve been getting trouble in the street.

“I just want it cleared up in the paper now. I’m innocent. Somebody is definitely still out there and they have obviously committed a crime.” Two women aged 34 and 31 were arrested following a disturbance on King Street, Renton about 4.30am on Sunday February 8. Local Community Inspector Neil Smith said “This incident demonstrates yet again our commitment to keeping the people of West Dunbartonshire safe. Anyone who consumes alcohol and then engages in acts of disorder will be dealt with robustly.”
