Swastikas and other offensive graffiti were daubed on four warning signs and a litter bin on Ben Lomond Way, Balloch, between 2.15am and 3pm on Friday March 20.

Similar grafitti was also daubed on a brick wall and sign under Balloch Bridge at Sweeney’s Boat Yard and residents reported incidents to the police.

Residents have hit out at the vandals, labelling it a threat to the upcoming tourist season. One resident described it as ‘racist rubbish’.

Haldane and Balloch Community Council noted the vandalism quickly and moved to have it cleaned off as soon as possible.

Inspector Neil Smith of Dumbarton Police Office said: “There have been a number of similar incidents previously and all the evidence points to the same individual being responsible for all these crimes.

“I would appeal to the public to come forward and provide the information we need to arrest this individual who has caused a considerable amount of fear and alarm to the local community.

“In particular, we are looking to speak to anyone who can recall a lone male cyclist in the area around the times in question. Anyone with information which can assist should telephone the non-emergency number 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.”
