Jay Dee McLachlan, 23, pleaded guilty to being on the path which runs under the bridge on Lomond Road, Balloch, with a blade.

He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing, and brandishing the knife at a 13-year-old girl then assaulting her by holding the blade to her throat. McLachlan, of Woodburn Avenue, further admitted to being caught with diazepam at Redfox Drive in Balloch when the offences took place on October 9 last year.

He pleaded guilty to failing to appeared at two court dates. He appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday and his lawyer said McLachlan wanted to be jailed that day.

The lawyer told Sheriff Maxwell Hendry: “He’s come here with the expectation to get a custodial sentence. He’s asked me to ask you to give him a custodial sentence today.” He added that McLachlan had a ‘somewhat chaotic’ life in the past year and had failed to turn up for a background report prior to sentencing because his grandmother was ill.

Sheriff Hendry deferred sentence until April 23.
