The board's code of conduct normally bans music from parades before 9am but the Dumbarton Orange Purple District No. 27 asked for permission for the The Pride of the Rock Flute Band to be able to play earlier when it marches through the town on July 4.

The matter was called before the board as a prior attempt was made to come to agreement via email but as some committee members were then against the early start being allowed.

Last year, a similar application was rejected by the committee but the latest bid was unanimously granted at a licensing committee meeting last week.

Representations were made by representatives of the band who said the early start was requested so they could made the West Group County Grand Orange Lodge parade at Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow at around 10am the same day.

Committee chairman, councillor Lawrence O'Neill said: "The committee unanimously agreed to the 8.45am start on the proviso that we will be monitoring the parade in terms of any complaints from environmental health about the music being too loud or going on for too long."
