A man was cut free from a car by firefighters after a crash in Dumbarton this morning.

The accident happened at around 6.45am on the A82 near the Bellsmyre roundabout.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews from Balloch and Dumbarton were sent to the scene, along with police officers and paramedics.

A injured man trapped inside the car was freed by firefighters using cutting equipment.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment, where police said he is currently in a 'stable condition'.

Incident commander, Station Manager Stephen McGrath, said: “Firefighters worked to create the space needed for him to be safely extricated while paramedics provided him with treatment inside the car.

“Our crews then helped to remove him and he was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.” A second person, who escaped injury, managed to get out of the car before the fire service arrived.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved and a police spokesman said inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
