A motion lodged aimed at securing one year’s funding for pupil transport from Dumbarton and the Vale to Glasgow Gaelic School was passed unanimously at a full meeting of West Dunbartonshire Council on Wednesday.
SNP education spokesman, Cllr Ian Murray, who proposed the motion, said: “The council took the decision in December to end our funding in line with equality requirements.
“While the parents of the 17 children resident in West Dunbartonshire who attend the Gaelic school were aggrieved by the decision it is Glasgow City Council which is in receipt of the funding for these pupils as they attend a Glasgow school and, it is for Glasgow to decide how best to support these pupils.
“We are delighted the Scottish Government has agreed to fund the year, and parents are now assured of no disruption when the new term begins in August.” Cllr Jonathan McColl, SNP group leader, added: “We were careful to develop our policy position here in consultation with officers who have been in contact with the Scottish Government to confirm the process required to accept the funding offer.”
