POLICE have been cracking down on a variety of offences committed on the A82 through Dumbarton and the Vale.

In one incident, a 35-year-old man was reported to the Procurator Fiscal after he allegedly tailgated other vehicles while riding a motor bike at speeds in excess of 104mph on the A82 in Dumbarton around 4.45pm on Friday June 19.

Two men aged 21 and 18 were charged with dangerous driving after they were allegedly spotted by officers tailgating each other and driving at speeds of approximately 70 mph on the northbound A82 near Alexandria about 4.30am on Sunday June 21.

A 31-year-old-man was also arrested at 5.10pm on Sunday after he allegedly drove a Vauxhall Corsa motor car on the A82 while under the influence of drugs.

Inspector Neil Smith told the Reporter: “Local officers understand that a smooth-running A82 plays an important part in the life of the local community and is vital to both the local and national economy. Therefore, we will continue to take appropriate enforcement action to reduce the risk of accidents, prevent the threat of harm to other road users and improve the quality of life for local residents.

“I would reiterate previous warnings that anyone found flaunting road traffic laws on the A82 can expect to be firmly dealt with”.
