WEST Dunbartonshire Sports Awards is back — and once again you can have a say which local sporting heroes are recognised for their talents and achievements.

Now in its second year, the awards recognise, celebrate and honour the achievements and tireless endeavours undertaken each and every day by people in the community throughout West Dunbartonshire who are passionate about sport.

The sports awards campaign and event allows us here at the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter to reach out to the sporting communities by acknowledging, rewarding and recognising local sporting achievements and celebrate their success.

Henry Ainslie, editor of the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter, said: “Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, we are proud to be working with our partners at the Clydebank Post and YOUR Radio on the 2015 West Dunbartonshire Community Sports Awards.

“The awards provide the perfect platform to celebrate all that is great and good about sport and sporting achievement in this rich and diverse area.

“From the dedicated coaches and volunteers who give up their time to make grassroots sport happen, right up to gold medal winning performances in international competition such as Balloch swimmer Ross Murdoch – this is your chance to recognise their contributions.” The event will encompass a wide range of sporting disciplines engaging with athletes, coaches, volunteers, and sporting officials from the community and clubs of all ages. The main themes running through the event is sports participation, well-being and team-spirit all over West Dunbartonshire.

Nominations can be made in each of the following categories: Community Coach of the Year; Young Coach of the Year; Sports Personality; Junior Sports Personality; Disability Sport; Technical Official of the Year; Dedication to sport; Volunteer of the Year; Young Volunteer of the Year; and Team of the Year.

John Anderson, West Dunbartonshire Leisure general manager, said: “Local sports clubs with their coaches, officials, athletes and many volunteers are the backbone of sport in West Dunbartonshire. There are many inspirational sporting individuals within our community and West Dunbartonshire Leisure are delighted to be supporting these Sports Awards that recognises and honours them.

“We all know of such people who go above and beyond the call of duty. Often they don’t want thanks but we all owe them a massive debt of gratitude for the huge impact they make in our local sporting communities.” Ensure you nominate those in your community before the closing date on Sunday, August 30.

Finalists will be announced before voting commences and the awards ceremony will take place on October 30, at Clydebank Town Hall.
