A talented young Dumbarton dancer won a first prize prestigous dance competition recently.

Zoe McKell, age nine, took first place in the under 10 Novice Slow Dance at the ICON 2015 event.

The Knoxland Primary School pupil trains around 12 hours a week at Danceworkz in Pollok.

Her mum, Marie-Claire, said: “Zoe had a break from dancing for approximately two years and has just returned in March so to make a final, let alone come first, is a huge achievement. This competition is the second most prestigous in the dancing competition calender “Her older sister danced when she was younger and Zoe wanted to follow in her footsteps. The determination to train and compete is second to none. They have dance classes, stamina classes and also gymnastics class, they put in huge amount of work every week. We love these weekend festivals as the children have amazing fun with all their dancing friends and get to meet new friends from Ireland and England and most of all create amazing childhood memories.” Zoe is now training hard for her next big dancing competition held in Dublin in August.
