Breaking news - C-diff families demand apology

THE families, united by the C-diff tragedy, today (Tuesday) announced they are officially seeking a public inquiry into the deaths at the Vale of Leven Hospital.

Representatives of seven families are demanding an apology from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) and whoever is responsible for the deaths of their loved ones.

Flanked by newly-appointed lawyer, family members addressed the media scrum which had descended on the Riverside Church in Dumbarton.

Michelle Stewart, a spokeswoman for the C-diff families, said: 'We, the families of the tragic victims of the C-diff outbreak, have come together as a group because we believe our loved ones were badly let down by Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board and the Scottish Government.

'Although we are happy that Nicola Sturgeon has established an independent review, we do not feel this is enough as it will not speak to the families.

'At the very least the people conducting the review should speak to those affected.'

Patrick McGuire, of Thompsons Solicitors, who is acting on behalf of the families, would not be drawn on questions about compensation.

He emphasised the families are not interested in money, but want to make sure their voices will be heard and questions are answered.

Mr McGuire also said the seven families want to make sure that no-one else in the future goes through the pain they have suffered.
