THREE new children’s playparks have been earmarked for Dumbarton and the Vale.

The new play areas are planned for Inler Park in Haldane, Overburn Crescent in Dumbarton and a location yet to be decided in New Bonhill. Consultations will be held with residents there to decide on where best to site the new amenity. The parks will be fitted out with a variety of equipment such as swings, multi play units, zip lines, slides, seesaws and roundabouts.

While the areas around the equipment will be surfaced with rubber to make play activities as safe as possible.

The new parks are due to be operational by the spring or summer of 2016 and have been scheduled as part of an ongoing £1 million investment that has been undertaken by West Dunbartonshire Council to create dozens of new play areas across the region. Renton was one of the areas to benefit recently with the opening of a new play area in Tontine Park.

Other new play areas have already been created in Argyll Park, Alexandria; East End Park, Dumbarton; Freelands and Thistleneuk in Old Kilpatrick; Dalmonach Park, Bonhill, Wylie Park in Renton and Milton Park — as well as four others in Clydebank. The opening of the new play areas has gone down well with local residents.

Councillor David McBride, vice-convener of Infrastructure and Regeneration, said: “This council is committed to building a better West Dunbartonshire and that includes big developments such as a new care home, and smaller community improvements such as playparks. The feedback we’ve had from residents about these new facilities has been extremely positive and I know the equipment is being very well used by children in these communities.” West Dunbartonshire Council has also installed the area’s first free outdoor gym at Dumbarton Common featuring a range of all-weather fitness equipment.
