A RENTON man who sent his ex-partner a barrage of threatening text messages has appeared in court.

Craig Winters, 39, previously pleaded guilty to causing the woman fear and alarm by repeatedly sending the messages and uttering threats on various occasions between March 26 and May 26 this year.

Winters, of Taylor Street, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week for sentencing.

Karen Nicol, fiscal depute, told the court Winters’ victim received numerous lengthy text messages from his number.

Ms Nicol said: “Contained within the text messages were references to her being dirty and ignorant, also calling her pathetic.” Winters was interviewed by police and admitted sending the offensive messages.

Bert Thomson, defending, said there had been no further incidents, adding that the parties were on ‘good’ terms.

Sheriff William Gallacher branded the incident ‘unpleasant’, telling Winters that it should not have happened.

He deferred sentence in order for Winters to be of good behaviour and to obtain a supplementary report. Winters will return to court on March 10, 2016.
