A man who caused a Renton woman fear and alarm by bombarding her with poems, letters, and texts after the end of their affair has been fined £350.

Michael Harrower, 46, told Dumbarton Sheriff Court he was "still in love" with the woman at the time and had not mean to cause her alarm.

He pleaded guilty to repeatedly sending the woman texts, letters, poems and contacting her on social media between May 11 and 21 last year.

He also admitted sending her flowers and going to her home in Taylor Street, Renton, uninvited.

Harrower, of Keltie Place, Dunblane, told social workers making a background report for sentencing that the wanted 'thrown out' of court and that he would refuse to pay a fine, do unpaid work or carry out other punishments, but backtracked when he appeared in the dock on Tuesday.

Representing himself, he told the court: "I never set out to cause anybody fear or alarm. I accept that I did do wrong. I've had 18 months of sleepless nights, 18 months of arguments with my wife because of a woman I had an affair with making a claim against me."

He said: "I am a good man. I had an affair with her. I fell in love with her. I tried to rekindle the relationship. I should've taken the hint but I was still in love with her."

He added: "I'll never speak to that woman again in my life."

He asked Sheriff William Gallacher to admonish him but the sheriff refused.

He told Harrower: "I don't think that admonishing you reflects the seriousness of the situation."

He fined Harrower £350 and placed him on a non-harassment order banning contact with his victim for two years.
