RENTON couple John and Beattie Rainey celebrated 50 years of married bliss this weekend at Renton Bowling Club.
The two met in a dance hall in Alexandria many moons ago and dated for two years before getting married in St Martins Church in 1966, holding their reception at their home.
Currently residing in Thimble Street, the couple spent many of their years together at a home in Lennox Street.
John and Beattie have a daughter, Samantha as well as a granddaughter, Karys, aged 5 and an adopted granddaughter, Amber, aged 10.
Now a carer for Cornerstone, John worked in Sales for many years and Beattie is retired, but spends most of her time watching grandchildren.
John told the reporter: "It feels great to reach this milestone but it's inexplicable too. God only knows how we got there!
"We met when we were 16 and got married at 19 and that was it I suppose."
Talking about what the secret to 50 years is, John said: "I think the key is to be wide open with each other, always tell the truth. That and having good family around you."
John was an avid footballer and played for Vale of Leven Juniors in his youth, he now enjoys playing bowls.
The couple were gearing up for their party at Renton Bowling Club throughout last week but it was no small feat, as John explained: "I'm excited for the party but I've been running about like there's three of me trying to organise everything!"
We wish all the best to John and Beattie and hope they can celebrate many more happy years together.
