A RENTON man who failed to carry out unpaid hours imposed for threatening a woman over the phone has had his sentence further deferred.

Craig Winters, 40, of Taylor Street, was given the community-based sentence for pleading guilty to sending a message containing threats of violence to the woman at Millburn Crescent in Dumbarton on Boxing Day 2015.

But when the case returned to court on Tuesday, February 28, his defence solicitor told the court that Winters could not carry out a community-based sentence because his "mental health and physical health had deteriorated considerably."

The information about Winters' current condition came from his GP.

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said: "I am going to defer sentence for the last time for good behaviour.

"If he does behave himself then I may be persuaded into leniency."

Sentence was deferred until June 2 and Winters was ordered to be of good behaviour.

His bail was continued.
