RENTON actress Gayle Telfer Stevens will be embarking on a national tour starting this month with stage show The Dolls Abroad.

The 2017 tour has already sold out at several venues and stars Gayle, of River City fame, Louise McCarthy, who is known for the sketch show Only and Excuse?.

The Dolls Abroad centres around Agnes and Sadie, played by Gayle and Louise respectively, Scotland's filthiest cleaners with mouths like sewers and hearts of gold. Having had their fill of scrubbing toilets The Dolls decide to head off on holiday to Greece after a big bingo win.

Gayle graduated from Uta Hagen's Technique in Acting & Teaching at HB Studio, New York and Mountview Academy of Performing Arts in London.

She has had a successful theatre career winning an Olivier Award in 2004 for Best Supporting Role in a Musical with Jerry Springer The Opera. Her other credits include Hansel and Gretel, Song, Sip and a Sandwich and Putting it Together.

Gayle told the Reporter: “The show's about Agnes and Sadie, the Dolls, they've been lifelong friends and then Agnes wins a holiday to Greece, where Agnes falls In love with a Greek Lothario. It's outrageous but it's a good story.

“It's so exciting to be doing this kind of show because it's all our own material. You have a lot more control and freedom with what you can do.

“I won't lie, it's very stressful as well but it's great fun as well. You get to see all your ideas coming to life .

“It's really collaberative as well and my partner has great punchlines, it's fantastic.”

The tour was announced on November 18, 2016 and in seven minutes Motherwell Concert Hall had sold out, quickly followed by Falkirk Town Hall in eight mins, and within 50 minutes two performances at The Kings Theatre, Glasgow had sold out.

Due to this overwhelming demand extra dates have been added to the 2017 tour, including The Edinburgh Playhouse on the May 14. Tickets and tour dates can be found at www.wearethedolls.com
