A Renton youth football club is to hold a sponsored walk next weekend in order to fund new playing kit and training equipment.

Players, supporters and coaches of Renton Craigandro FC is to take part in the sponsored walk on Saturday June 10, beginning at 10am from Dumbarton's Levengrove Park and will finish up at Vale of Leven FC's Tontine Park, where a fun day will be held for kids of all ages.

The money will be used to fund new playing kit and tracksuits for the team to wear before, during and after matches, as well as also going towards sending the club's teams to football tournaments.

Raymond Kelley, a coach and committee member at the club, says that the fundraising event is needed as the club does not receive government money, and added that all money raised by each of the club's teams will be kept by that individual team.

He said: "The main benefits that the club offers is that it gets the kids involved with football and one of our main features is that we'll take on kids that want to play and if there's an overspill, then we'll just set up a new team. It gives them something to do and the club is always there to just let them train and play.

"This is actually the first interested that we've done this sort of activity with the full club, it's usually just those interested in helping out, so we're hoping to get a big turnout."
