Loch Lomond Rescue Boat hosted its annual open day last weekend, with visitors being given the chance to get a first-hand look of the work done by the boat and local emergency services.

The event - which took place at Loch Lomond Shores - allowed those in attendance to meet the crew behind the boat, as well as spending time on the boat and seeing all of the equipment.

Representatives from Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service were also there to show off what they do.

The boat was founded in 1977 followed an anonymous donation from a mystery sailor, the boat and its crew provides a 24/7 emergency rescue service on the loch, as well as dispensing water safety advice for boat users, canoeists and windsurfers.

A spokesman said: “The rescue boat is crewed by volunteers 365 days a year and we are completely reliant on charitable donations and they keep us going.

“It’s busy for us in the summer with the school holidays and we’re getting upwards of 70 callouts at the moment, so it’s good to get out and raise awareness for what we do, as well as promoting water safety.”
