SCORES of children and their parents felt the long arm of the law during a police event in Dumbarton.

But thankfully it was all for good causes, as the divisional HQ threw its doors open on Saturday for its popular annual open day.

And it was an arresting experience for those who turned up, as there was plenty to see and do.

Those who went along had the chance to get up close to one of the police dogs which helps officers during house raids, big public events or other police activity, while you could take a peek inside one of the police vans too.

Among the other attractions was the souped-up police traffic car, the force's ever popular horses, the motorbike team, the mountain rescue crew and members of the British Transport Police.

Supporting the event was the MOD Marine Unit, Scottish Fire and Rescue, ScotsERVS NHS Motorbikes, the Loch Lomond Park Rangers, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Loch Lomond Rescue Team.

In addition members of Y-Sort-It Bus were in attendance, while some of the stallholders included CHAS (Children's Hospices Across Scotland), Alzheimer Scotland, I AM ME, Tullochan Trust, WDC Your Community, Caudwell Children, while Penguin Pete kept everyone smiling.

A police spokesman said: "What a fantastic turnout from the local community.

"We managed to sell out our raffle tickets which is great as all money goes to Children's Hospices Across Scotland & Ysortit WestDunbartonshire!

"A massive thank you to all those who donated a prize!

"We would like to say thank you to all partner agencies that took part and the members of public that attended and made it such a great event!

"We will be updating with the money raised for both charities next week."
