Two local charities have been the grateful beneficiaries of the proceeds of the recent Dumbarton Police Open Day.

In total, the event raised over £1500, with Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) and Y-Sort-It splitting the proceeds evenly between them.

The popular annual event saw those who went along be able to meet police dogs, take a peek inside some of the emergency vehicles, get behind the decks with a DJ sessions run by SKapade Studios, and even have the chance of meeting mascots, including police mascot Penguin Pete.

Local Policing Commander, Chief Superintendent Hazel Hendren said: "Once again the wonderful people of Dumbarton and beyond came out in the their droves to find out more about the work their police officers do and the work of our partner agencies do whilst supporting two very deserving charities. I am absolutely delighted with the funds that were raised and I know that it will get put to good use.

"The officers who were there with the local community had great fun despite the typical Scottish weather, with sunshine one minute and rain the next. This did not spoil anyone's fun and I am pleased it was such a success. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the day and those who donated raffle prizes. We look forward to welcoming you again next year!"

Jonathan Clegg, community fundraiser at CHAS said: “We want to thank the Dumbarton Police for hosting such an amazing open day and raising an incredible amount for CHAS, as well as thank the local community for taking part.

“The vital funds raised by local fundraising events help us to keep the joy alive for families across Scotland facing the most difficult time imaginable by ensuring that no matter how short their time together may be, it is filled with happiness."
