A FAILED job interview may not be something you want to remember, but it managed to win Simon Griffen and fiancee Carolanne Taylor their £6,000 dream wedding.
Simon had applied for a job at the Lodge at Loch Lomond when the complex first opened in 1992.
Fast forward 17 years and Simon found himself in a tie-break situation with a dream wedding at the hotel's new wedding suite at stake.
Luckily for him the question was "what year and month did the Lodge at Loch Lomond open?"
Postman Simon, 35, was able to search his memory and his answer was just a month out, but was near enough to win.
Now the Bonhill pair have chosen the date and will get hitched at the new Glen Luss Wedding Suite at the Lodge, just weeks after they had abandoned plans to wed due to money worries.
The competition was run in conjunction with the Lodge and our sister radio station Your Radio, with the final broadcast live on air.
Bride-to-be Carolanne, a driving instructor, told the Reporter: "The competition was very, very tense.
"We were down to the last two couples in the final round - they answered six questions out of six right, and so did we.
"So a tie-breaker question was set.
"Simon managed to calculate back from a bad job interview he had for a bar position at the hotel in 1992.
"The Lodge opened in May 1992 - we said April 1992 - so we were one month out, while the other couple said 1990."
She added: "We couldn't believe we had won.
"We had been hoping to have our wedding there this year, but gave up until next year to have it because of the expense.
"Now we have our dream wedding - we're completely elated, and we'd like to thank everyone who has been involved, they were great."
The couple - who have been together four years and have a two-year-old son Jack - have set the big day at November 6 2010.
