Incident was sparked by alleged 'abduction'
ARMED police swooped on a home in Renton after reports a young woman had allegedly earlier been held there against her will.
Several police vans, including firearms officers and a dog team, descended on the farmhouse in an operation which one eyewitness described as like a scene from a "cop TV show".
It is understood the suspect was not at the property when police burst in on Friday morning, but he was apprehended later that day.
A 35-year-old man appeared in Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday following the raid, and was charged with allegedly abducting a 21-year-old woman and assaulting a 29-year-old man at Whiteley's Farm, on Renton Road.
Before the raid, police confirmed they had received information that the suspect may have been in possession of a gun.
However, no firearm was discovered.
It is understood the woman - who is the alleged victim - raised the alarm after leaving the property at some point in the early hours of Friday.
Police then arrived on the scene at around 6am.
The arrested man has been charged with alleged abduction and assault.
Superintendent Kirk Kinnell, who was involved in the operation, confirmed the arrest.
