CAMPAIGNERS whose relatives died during the C-diff superbug outbreak at the Vale of Leven Hospital have dedicated a prestigious award to "the people we lost".

The C-diff Justice Group was named winner of The Public Campaign of the Year at the Scottish Politician Awards 2009 on Thursday.

The group was recognised for its tireless efforts in forcing a public inquiry into the tragic outbreak.

The group, which was formed after the 2008 outbreak revealed by The Dumbarton Reporter, was set up to push for answers into why loved ones had died from the superbug.

The public inquiry into the outbreak at the Vale of Leven Hospital began on October 1 and will report back its findings in 11 months.

The inquiry, which is chaired by Lord MacLean, has a wide remit and has the power to require witnesses to give evidence, both orally and in writing.
