TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Vale woman who sadly lost her brave cancer fight.
Marie Millar passed away on Thursday July 22, aged 48, after an 11-month battle against lung cancer.
Well-known in the area for her sharp sense of humour and compassionate nature, Marie lived for her family, especially her son Kyle, 21.
Marie’s brother, councillor John Millar spoke to the Reporter about his special sister.
He said: “Marie was a lovely, lovely person.
“She was always there for Kyle.
“Marie was one of those people who was very self sufficient and her family was the most important thing to her.
“It was just her and Kyle and she would go without and sacrifice anything for Kyle.
“As a single parent she strived to ensure he had the best opportunities in life and throughout her life she helped develop him into a fine young gentleman who she can be extremely proud of.”
Marie grew up in Renton before moving to Jamestown and laterly Bonhill.
She moved to Canada in the 1980s for 10 years where she had Kyle.
Moving home in the late 1980s, Marie brought up Kyle with the support of her close-knit family.
Over the years, she made friends for life while working in several shops including Jenners, Antartex, Flick Brand and The Bra Factory in Loch Lomond Outlets.
Marie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
John said: “The last word she said in hospital was Kyle’s name.
“It means a lot to us as a family to be so close.”
