Dentists raise a smile
THE Vale of Leven Hospital's Cancer Fund has been boosted by a donation from HM Naval Base Clyde.
The Dental department held a charity night in the base's Senior Rates' Mess, attracting more than 200 guests.
It also doubled as a joint birthday party for dental hygienist Leslie Mooney, 50, and her son, James, 18.
The cash will be split between the hospital and The Meningitis Trust.
Sadly, 13 years ago Leslie's youngest son, John, died from meningitis at age two, and for the past 10 years she has been a cancer patient at the Vale of Leven Hospital Oncology Unit.
Leslie said: "Both these organisations have been a great support to me and my family and I wanted to give something back.
"The fundraising part of the evening consisted of a race night, auctions and raffles where we raised £4,500.
"We had a local band, Harmoney, to provide the music along with DJ Adrian Coll and I got the chance to sing an ABBA medley with the band and James did a Daft Punk dance routine with three of his friends much to the delight of our guests."
Leslie works in two other dental practices, one in Alexandria and one in Drymen, both owned by Margaret Colvin. She and her staff have got behind the fundraising effort too and have collected around £500 in donations from patients and raised £200 raffling electric toothbrushes.
