Teen guilty of murder
EVIL Craig Roy has been convicted of murdering classmate Jack Frew in a frenzied knife attack.
Roy, 19, from Cardross, had denied murdering Jack, 16, at a wooded area in a wooded area adjacent to Wellelsley Crescent and Mossneuk Road, East Kilbride, on May 6, 2010.
The jury of nine women and five men took less than 90 minutes to find Roy unanimously guilty of murder.
As the jury verdict was returned Roy sat staring straight ahead and showed no emotion.
Jack's dad Robert quietly said: "Rot in hell" as Roy was led away to the cells. Jack's mother Lorraine sobbed as the verdict was announced.
Roy now faces detention for life. Lord Doherty deferred sentence on him until March 1 for background reports which will help him to determine how long Roy should serve behind bars before being eligible for parole.
Roy was just 17 and a pupil at Duncanrig Secondary in East Kilbride when he horrifically murdered Jack, who was in the year below him.
Both boys were openly gay and Roy claimed he was being blackmailed for sex by Jack.
Roy, who had a gay partner Christopher Hannah, 20, said he cheated on him with Jack and Jack was threaening to tell.
Throughout his trial Roy, who stabbed 16-year-old Jack twenty times and slit his throat from side to side, claimed he had not memory of the brutal attack.
Two psychiatrists claimed that he could have been suffering from a personality disorder - but each identified a different disorder.
Three other psychiatrists showed no signs of a personality disorder.
Roy claimed that he was being blackmailed for sex by Jack and had agreed to meet him to sort out matters out once and for all.
He took a knife from the back of a kitchen cupboard, but claimed that he only did this to scare Jack, who was unarmed and defenceless.
In evidence given during the 14-day trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Roy, who was a 17-year-old schoolboy at "I do not recall stabbing him 20 times and slitting his throat. I tried to help him."
But Roy told Mr Hannah and his sister Royby just minutes after the murder that he had killed Jack and slit his throat.
