APPEAL: Councillor Ryall

ELDERLY residents in Dumbarton and the Vale who haven't previously received the £15 Christmas payment from the council are being encouraged to apply before the deadline closes.

Every resident who was 60 or over on December 1, 2011 and lives in the area is eligible for the money after the Corporate and Efficient Governance Committee recently agreed to continue with the grant payments.

The council is using same nomination process as last year and so only new applicants or those who wish to change the details provided last year need to apply before the July 31 deadline.

Individuals need to inform the council if they would like the payment paid directly into an individual's bank account or to a nominated elderly welfare organisation.

Councillor Kath Ryall, Convenor of Corporate Services, said: "This payment is not means tested and I would encourage everyone who has not previously benefited to fill in an application form and submit it within the deadline.

"In the current financial climate, every little helps, especially come Christmas time when we all typically feel the pinch."

For further information call the council's contact centre on 01389 738282 or those with internet access can complete the forms online at www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk

Residents can post their nomination form to Grants Administrator, Finance and Resource Services, West Dunbartonshire council, council offices, Garshake Road, Dumbarton, G82 3PU.
