Honour for ex-MP

THE area's former MP has been presented with an honorary doctorate from West of Scotland University.

John McFall became Lord McFall of Alcluith in 2010 following 23 years service for Dumbarton and West Dunbartonshire.

He is well-known nationally for his time as chairman of the House of Commons Treasury Committee, a position he held between 2001 and 2010.

In the House of Lords, he continues to focus on the issues of the economy and financial services.

He picked up the award on Wednesday.
