A CONVICTED drugs courier had had £29,000 seized at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today (Friday).

Mohammed Basharat was found with cannabis worth £450 inside his van when he was stopped on the A82.

He was sentenced today to 80 hours of community service.

Basharat was stopped near Tarbet on July 22 2010.

Lindsey Miller, Head of the Serious and Organised Crime Division (SOCD), said: "Mohammed Basharat, from Birmingham, was caught acting as a drugs courier, having been stopped with £450 of herbal cannabis in his van.

"His conviction under the Misuse of Drugs Act is classed as a lifestyle offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act, so the Crown could look at his income over the six years leading up to his arrest.

"He was found to have made £108,923.32 from illegal activities.

"Today's confiscation order for £29,000 represents the full amount available to us at this time."
