A THUG who attempted to rob a petrol station before targeting a bookies just days later has appeared in court.

Stephen Gallacher, 26, attempted to rob a petrol station in Dumbarton's Townend Road, assaulting two employees on June 30.

He brandished a knife and threatened them before demanding they open the till.

He also entered the Betfred bookmakers in Helenburgh's East Princes Street with his face partially covered, and brandished a knife, assaulted a worker.

He then made off with £300 following the incident on July 4 this year.

On Wednesday he appeared in Dumbarton Sheriff Court and pled guilty to the offences.

Sheriff David Clapham deferred sentence on Gallacher, whose address was given as prisoner of Low Moss, until in order for the court to obtain a criminal justice social work report.
