In a letter expected to be sent to parents today, Terry Lanagan, executive director of education, says Ladyton and Highdykes Primaries would be closed and merged onto the St Ronan's Primary site, with £1.5 million spent upgrading both buildings.

Pupils from St Ronan's Primary would then be moved to the vacated Ladyton Primary building.

If it goes ahead, the move would happen next year (June 2015).

Ladyton Nursery will also be altered to cater for under-threes only, with three to four-year-old moving to a centre withing St Ronan's Primary.

The Reporter revealed ealier this month that a list of 11 schools were on West Dunbartonshire Council's hit list.

However, many shocked parents have been left reeling after learning of the details plans on Facebook this morning.

A report will go to the Educational Services Committee on September 3 called ‘Schools Strategy: Regenerating Learning – Next Steps’.
