Last week, we revealed councillors had pushed on with plans to sign up for the initiative which will see a total of £1.3 billion from the Scottish and UK governments injected into eight local authorities in the Greater Glasgow area, including West Dunbartonshire.

The council intends to buy the Exxon site in Bowling, once it has been decontaminated, and invest £27.9 million including the relief road.

Gemma Doyle MP said: “I am a big supporter of Councils in the Clyde Valley working more closely together and this new funding is great news for West Dunbartonshire. Not only will residents benefit a better road network, but I hope the investment will also have a real effect on the local community, driving local economic growth and supporting local jobs. The council have done a great job in securing this money.” Jackie Baillie MSP added: “I am delighted that West Dunbartonshire has been able to secure such a great deal as part of the City Deal. This investment will be spent on a much-needed road which many of us have been calling for for a long time and this is a great example of what local councils, the UK and Scottish Governments can achieve by working together.”
