HUNDREDS of Dumbarton fans are expected to descend on Strathclyde Homes Stadium today (Tuesday) to pay their respects to heroic captain Gordon Lennon, who tragically died last week.
A hearse carrying Gordon will visit Dumbarton FC"s ground at 1pm on route to the club captain"s home, which he had so recently set up with partner Kelly and their six month-old baby son Kai.
Gordon"s grieving family say they have been comforted by the outpouring of tributes and messages of support from Sons fans and well-wishers, in a statement of thanks released through the club.
His funeral will be held tomorrow (Wednesday).
A statement on behalf of Gordon"s family - including partner Kelly Dempsey and their son Kai, brothers Scott and Buchan, sister Heather, and mum and dad Alex and Silvana - was released through the club saying: 'All the family wish to thank everyone for your overwhelming response to the tragic news.
'In particular we would like to thank, our extended family, Jim Chapman, Dumbarton FC and all the friends, fans and other football clubs who have offered us support at this difficult time.
'The tributes, and in particular those left at Strathclyde Homes Stadium, have been a great comfort, as is knowing how popular Gordon was and how he impacted on other people"s lives.
'The memories which we have and the tributes received will be with us forever and retained for Kai who will, through these memories, share in the joy of Gordon"s all too short life as a dedicated father.'
