Residents will be moved to new homes

A FED-UP community leader has said he wants to be the one that flicks the switch to bring down a "blight" on a Dumbarton housing estate.

The quartet of high rise flats in Bellsmyre will be vacated and torn down as part of a major regeneration project planned for the scheme.

For years, the flats in Howatshaws Road have been plagued by anti-social behaviour, but now the council has taken the decision to raize them to the ground.

It has also been revealed that Bellsmyre Housing Association is looking at developing the area where the high rises currently stand at the top of the estate.

West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) has taken the decision to vacate and demolish Douglas House, Endrick House, Fruin House and Kinglass House as it looks to get rid of its surplus housing stock.

Currently, there are 90 tenants in the 234 flats across the four blocks, meaning more than half of them are lying empty.
