Art teacher's quest to create links
IT may be the original and the best, but it is hoped that Dumbarton can link-up with its namesakes around the world in a bid to boost tourism.
The idea is the brainchild of Fred Bull, who has already spent a decade connecting his home city of Aberdeen with others of the same name dotted all over the globe.
He believes the town would benefit from exploring its links.
The 72-year-old travelled 96,000 miles to visit all of the 35 Aberdeens worldwide - a trip which has now spurred him on to help other parts of Scotland do the same.
He has found that there are at least 15 other places named Dumbarton in America alone, and says that there could be many more out there.
According to the research he has done so far, Fred has found Dumbartons in New York state, Virginia, Indiana, Alabama, Nebraska, Carolina and Maryland, among others.
