THE family of a man who vanished more than a week ago say they are "worried sick" for his safety.

Edward Ward left his Dumbarton home at around 8.30am on Friday September 11 and, despite extensive enquiries by police, he has still not been found.

His two daughters - Sarah, 35, and Joanne, 33 - are desperate to know of his whereabouts, as is his only grandchild, nine-year-old Ben.

It is thought that the unemployed 59-year-old may have travelled away from the area in a silver Nissan Note motability car, but the vehicle is still to be traced.

Police know that Mr Ward, from Clydeshore Road, in Kirktonhill, has links to Wolverhampton and it is thought he may have visited the Carlisle area this week.

His wife, Irene, 63, revealed that Mr Ward had left to go to the bank on the day he was last seen.

She told the Reporter: "This is a very difficult and traumatic time for the family, everyone is just trying to keep their head and keep calm - we are all worried sick.

"He took clothes and a shaver with him when he left.

"It was just like any other day, I thought he was going to the bank in Dumbarton, and the last thing he said to me was 'cheerio' before he went out the door.

"It is very hard for his grandson, who is too young to understand and keeps asking after his grand-dad, who is a very popular and well-liked guy in the town."

Mr Ward, who is known to many as Eddie, is described as 5ft 10ins tall and has a heavy build.

He has brown/grey hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion and was last seen wearing a blue jacket with a cream collar, dark blue denim jeans and brown shoes.

Inspector Ian Wallace, from Dumbarton police office, has urged people from around the town to provide as much help as they can.

Anyone with any information on Mr Ward's disappearance is asked to contact officers at Dumbarton police office on 01389 822000.
