A LUCKY shipping fanatic won the chance to get up close to one of the world's most famous liners on Monday October 19.
Former merchant seaman Sydney Davis, from Dumbarton, was totally "chuffed" after winning two tickets, courtesy of a competition on our sister station YOUR Radio, to go on board the Waverley paddle steamer as it guided Cunard's QM2 out of Greenock harbour.
And it was an extra exciting trip for the 75-year-old because it is his first chance to get on board the Waverley since working on it as a teenager in the 1950s.
It was the QM2's maiden voyage to Greenock and afterwards there was a spectacular firework show which lit up the sky.
Sydney won his special prize on the YOUR Radio Breakfast Show with Dave Ross on Friday morning.
Dave was delighted there was such a worthy recipient of the two tickets.
He told the Reporter: "Sydney was a great winner.
"It's brilliant that we were are able to give him the chance to get back out on the Waverley on what was such a special event."
